Who we are

Coffee is a reason for people to come together

At Kwetu Coffee, we believe coffee is more than a drink. It is a reason to share experiences, build relationships and create opportunities.

Our passion extends beyond serving great coffee — we are committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and the communities around us.

“Kwetu” means “our home” or “our place” — a welcoming space where everyone, whatever their background or circumstances, feels accepted, respected and valued.

Our story

Business as a vehicle for positive social change

Many people in our communities face barriers to opportunity, skills and financial independence — especially refugees and asylum seekers, who often meet:

  • Limited employment opportunities
  • No local work experience
  • Financial hardship
  • Social isolation

Rather than seeing these as limitations, we see an opportunity to make a difference — creating an environment where people discover their potential, develop valuable skills and become active participants in their communities.

Coffee with a purpose

Our social mission is at the centre of everything we do

We use coffee as a platform to create opportunities, encourage personal development and promote social inclusion.

Free barista training

Practical hospitality skills — coffee preparation, customer service, teamwork and workplace confidence — free for refugees and asylum seekers.

Barista training

Employment opportunities

We bridge the gap between training and work with practical experience and, where possible, employment through our coffee enterprise.

What we do

Community & creativity

A vibrant hub where creatives, artists, entrepreneurs and young people meet, collaborate and showcase their talents.

A space for community

A place where everyone can belong

Through gatherings, creative activities and community engagement, we reduce social isolation and build a culture of mutual understanding and support.

We welcome:

  • Creatives and local artists
  • Entrepreneurs and young people
  • People from every cultural background
  • Refugees and asylum seekers looking for connection and friendship

Inclusion & diversity

Diversity makes communities stronger

People are not defined by their circumstances, nationality, immigration background or economic situation. We focus on abilities, aspirations and potential.
